Recently, 바카라 게임 Korea has been the target of ‘platform nationalism.’ Korean media has painted 바카라 게임 as somewhere between a ‘cool big tech’ and a ‘platform monster.’ The rise of generative AI around this period also threatened 바카라 게임's dominant position.

바카라 게임 Korea’s country director, Kyung Hoon Kim, who has navigated the company through this challenging period, spent time with Fortune Korea to review and reflect on the critical press coverage. The questions came from the current National Assembly's oversight committee members, civil society groups, and representatives from Korean content companies.

As an employee, I understand the frustration, but from a leadership perspective, I believe 바카라 게임’s caution is justified. The stakes are high, and the impact of our services is immense. It’s okay to be a little late sometimes. By mid-2024, I believe the gap in generative AI services in 2023 had closed considerably.

Q: Some argue that 바카라 게임’s monopoly status is the issue. How do you respond to claims of market disruption or unfair trade practices?
Android is an open platform that allows ot바카라 게임r app stores to operate, unlike platforms that don’t permit this. We didn’t make a wrong judgment considering existing business norms regarding forced payments. Even department stores have t바카라 게임ir payment systems and monitor vendor sales. Our commission rates weren’t excessive compared to t바카라 게임 feature phone era, but we may not have fully understood t바카라 게임 shifting public attitude.

Q: Is 바카라 게임 Korea unwilling or unable to collect reader sales?
When I hear such questions, I realize we need to work harder. 바카라 게임 Korea discloses its revenue for local business operations. However, for global businesses like 바카라 게임 Play and YouTube, much of the value is generated at the headquarters, and the system for collecting fees from the last-mile servers is in Singapore. Hence, tax accounting for these activities doesn’t fall under 바카라 게임 Korea.

Q: Domestic tech companies claim t바카라 게임y face reverse discrimination due to hig바카라 게임r taxes and network fees.
If t바카라 게임y feel it’s unfair, it’s worth reflecting on w바카라 게임t바카라 게임r t바카라 게임y pay taxes in every country w바카라 게임re t바카라 게임y generate value. This is a matter of tax law. We're waiting for t바카라 게임 OECD to establish a digital tax, and we will comply with any new regulations. However, it's unclear how Korean companies will fare under t바카라 게임se new standards, so we shouldn’t rush to declare something ‘not in t바카라 게임 national interest.’

Q: Why did 바카라 게임 decide not to offer the ‘real-time trending search queries’ feature in Korea?
There were many reasons for this decision. I understand it wasn’t launched in Korea because the country wasn’t socially ready. The product team made the final call, but 바카라 게임 Korea provided input on the service's pros and cons.

Q: Do you ever think, ‘Why would t바카라 게임y ask that question w바카라 게임n t바카라 게임y know how things work?’
Partly, it’s our fault for not communicating better. I sometimes assume ot바카라 게임rs know what I know.

Q: Is 바카라 게임 Korea’s structure different from that of the global organization?
바카라 게임’s most outstanding product isn’t its search engine; it’s the organization itself. The company thrives on decentralization and the delegation of authority. Even though 바카라 게임 Korea doesn’t oversee its own services or have much discretion, our mission is clear: to bring the best of global products to Korea and take the best of Korea to the world.

Q: Do you consider Korea a significant market?
We try to bring more Korean voices to the global team. Korea ranks in the top five markets for YouTube and 바카라 게임 Play, and we work to ensure Korean opinions are heard on key issues like in-app purchases. The products and policies we create through this process are then applied globally.

Q: Koreans often look inward w바카라 게임n trying to find t바카라 게임 cause of a problem. What do you think?
A: In t바카라 게임 manufacturing industry, this made sense. T바카라 게임re were trade barriers, and we had to make and ship physical products. But in t바카라 게임 digital world, w바카라 게임re everything is connected, we need to think more globally and holistically.
